About The 96.5 House Band
The 96.5 House Band has been entertaining audiences in Western North Carolina and beyond since November of 2002.
Based in Asheville, NC The 96.5 House Band has enjoyed the honor of supporting the likes of the Beach Boys, The Temptations, Gary Puckett, The Rascals, Ambrosia, The Drifters and more. In fact, both the Beach Boys and Temptations requested the 96.5 House Band to play a few more dates with them (Tough to travel to South Carolina and Florida on very short notice and play for free, but a thrill to be asked!). Also, Gary Puckett …. upon hearing the band’s sound check …commented “You guys are gonna give me a run for my money tonight”. To which the band responded, “Hey, you’re the one with the hits!”
While the noteworthy shows have allowed the 96.5 House Band to play in front of thousands of music lovers, the band’s bread and butter are local events such as weddings, private parties, community block parties, car shows, radio station events and more. With a playlist that spans nearly four decades of hits, the dance floor is a popular place when the 96.5 House Band comes around. And if you’re not dancing, you’ll be singing along!
Meet the Band
A singer from an early age just about everything in Chris’ life has revolved around music, from working as a "lounge lizard" on the cruise circuits, to recording studios to a career in radio. Traveling the world singing has given him a unique appreciation for many genres of music.
A founding member of the 96.5 House Band and is very proud of the band’s accomplishments. “I’m not sure there’s an Asheville band that can say they’ve played the Asheville Civic Center, Thomas Wolfe Auditorium and the Orange Peel multiple times .... and SURVIVED!!”
Born and raised in Western Europe, Frank didn’t become aware of American Top 40 Radio until later in life, hearing the infectious opening of "My Girl" for the first time at the age of 16. Now an icon of the local music scene Frank is the band’s self proclaimed musicologist, continually seeking music no one else has ever heard.
A veteran drummer Steve has shared the stage with Professor Longhair, Tommy James & the Shondells, Jay & the Tecniques, Dr hook & the medicine show, Little Anthony, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Johnny Clyde Copeland, Etta James-to name just a few.
James studied piano under Elton John, Ray Manzarek (Doors) and Bruce Hornsby. His B3 instructors included Benmont Tench (Tom Petty) and Rick Wakeman (Yes). These legendary keyboardists gave lessons to young James at the keyboard ... well, at least their vinyl LPs did.
